I wanted this piece to hold a sense of ritual mystery. This reflects how bamboo is seen in many Global South cultures, where bamboo – bring so commonplace and useful – has come to carry deep spiritual meaning. Black and blond bamboo sushi mats, set on a rotating base and cut by a single strong side lamp, using light do as much work as the form itself.

Over Your Cities Grass Will Grow

This piece evokes the melancholic beauty of dissolution. A collapsing architectural form—its bamboo slats slumped and peeling—suggests a structure no longer able to hold itself together. One flank appears to unravel into wave-like motions, as if drawn back into the sea, that ancient symbol of the unconscious.

At its heart coils a single helix—an unfinished DNA strand—hinting at a structure not fully born, or perhaps one being unmade. The work hovers between ruination and reabsorption, exposing its inner scaffolding like a body laid bare, inviting reflection on memory, breakdown, and the deep cycles of decay and transformation.

These sculptural maquette evoke the sensation of anger held in tension. Here, anger is not cathartic but creates an architectural structure built from the act of suppression.

Bundles of bamboo slats, bound and pierced by sudden jabs of skewers; the conflicting geometries suggesting an inner storm compacted by control.

Ego as Flag

Materials: Bamboo slats, string, flock wallpaper

This sculptural maquette explores the idea of identity as performance — the ways in which we project our beliefs, ideals, and personas into the world. The curved bamboo slats form arcs reminiscent of banners caught mid-flight. Interwoven with strips of flock wallpaper, these forms evoke the pageantry of self-image: how we wrap ourselves in ideologies and aesthetics, waving them like banners to define who we are.

The title — Flag as Ego — alludes to the tendency to identify with our symbolic flags so deeply that they become both armor and mask, the crosses to which we nail our sense of self.
