Using Gridshells to build Festival Structures

Bamboo construction is arguably its largest global use. So, in the spring of 2025 I spent a month studying bamboo construction with the bamboo masters – Balinese bamboo carpenters.

Subsequently I returned to the UK to see what I could build at two UK festivals – the We are Love and Tribal Earth festivals in the south of the UK.

Working with festival goers to help build, the structures explored the random weave technique to create several bamboo domes; they came alive at night with solar lighting and a glowing central orb, transforming into a sustainable chillout space for all ages.
